On Saturday 6th November, at Emmetts Farm, Little Marlow, Save Marlow’s Greenbelt (SMG) Campaigners held a bring and buy cake stall to raise awareness and funds to make a stand against the development of Marlow’s precious greenbelt.
Hundreds of people attending with dozens and dozens of cakes being traded over conversations around how they can help and spread the word.
One campaigner and cake seller said ‘We were overwhelmed with kind donations and much of the community have grave concerns. People were leaving with a fist full of flyers to distribute’
The cake sale was a great opportunity for people to chat about the planned colossal development, share thoughts and find out some of the realities of how a development like this could result in bad news for Marlow.
SMG would like to thank all supporters in helping them raise just over £500 for the cause and to Emmetts Farm for being gracious hosts.
As the campaign against development gains momentum, locals are coming forward with offers of expertise, time and funds, but we need much more. Can you help? Find out more at savemarlowsgreenbelt.org/how-can-you-help/
There is a public consultation happening currently and we urge people to go and find out for themselves, the loss and impact these plans would have on our local community, wildlife habitats and biodiversity, if it were to go ahead. We want to protect footpaths and routes that locals have been using for years, specifically in the area known locally as the Little Marlow Lakes Country Park near Marlow and Little Marlow in Buckinghamshire. If you walk, cycle or otherwise use the area between the railway line, the A404 and the A4155, can you please complete a short survey.
Frank Schoofs, who is leading the rights of way effort for Save Marlow’s Greenbelt, said: “Many people have been using local paths for years without realising that they are not officially registered. That means access to them is not guaranteed and they might disappear overnight. We have all benefited from access to nature in our local countryside during the lockdowns, so we must ensure that future generations can too.”
Popular uses of the area include dog walking, running and angling through various well-trodden paths. Save Marlow’s Greenbelt team of volunteers will use the information from the survey to submit a Definitive Map Modification Order to Buckinghamshire Council, so that the map of registered Rights of Way can be updated and everyone can continue to benefit from access to green space on their doorstep. If you want to help, you can complete the survey or contact the team at rightsofway@savemarlowsgreenbelt.org.
Close Neighbour Forum session will be happening soon. If you are a resident who will be directly impacted by the development, request to attend from Sounding to ask questions and find out more about the scale.
Email consultation@marlow.film to register.
Buckinghamshire County Council is spending millions of pounds creating a relief road off the A404 to access Globe Park, due to excess congestion. You can read more about this here > https://www.bucksfreepress.co.uk/news/15616468.westhorpe-interchange-junction-on-the-a404-at-marlow-set-for-17m-makeover-in-bid-to-ease-congestion/
For some time now pollution has been recorded in the area of Marlow’s centre well above safe limits for some time. Poor air quality is directly due to traffic load.
The studio project promises 5000 more jobs, but no sustainable green transport. All this extra polluting transport will negatively affect the already dangerously high levels of air pollution we are experiencing in the area.
Marlow town centre has a serious air pollution problem. Based on monthly averaged (non-continuous) measurements, the nitrogen dioxide concentrations are above legal levels.
Transition Town Marlow
The destruction of our greenbelt will only increase air pollution. Cities are trying to combat dangerous levels of air pollution by introducing green spaces. Why would we remove it forever?
